Community Mobilisation in Support of National Agricultural Strike

Over a hundred people, mostly from the Colombian community and with the support of other Latin Americans, rallied in Trafalgar Square yesterday evening in support of the national agrarian strike in Colombia.  We gathered in a big circle. There was a great collective spirit generated especially by the collective efforts of women organising as concerned citizens at the grass roots.

Several speakers underlined that the attacks are a direct consequence of the Free Trade Agreements coming into effect, and condemned the actions of the police. One youth has been killed, although several more are suspected; many leaders are being taken into detention.

The assembly was the most significant solidarity mobilisation of the community for several years. The assembly decided to:

Picket from 3pm Friday 31 August Colombian Embassy
3 Hans Crescent (back of Harrods – nearest tube Knightsbridge)
